Sleeping in an Abandoned Village (Solanell, Alt Urgell, Lleida, Catalunya)
The last inhabitant of Solanell abandoned the village in 1972. More than 30 years later, an architect from Tarragona decided to make the reconstruction of Solanell his life's work. Perfectly located on the Cathar Catalan route, it was used for smuggling to Andorra. The sun always shines on Solanell. All day long, the whole year round.
The Mecca of Spanish Oils
(La Granadella, Lleida)
Between Lleida and Tortosa, deep in the arid lands, you will find an oasis. Granadella is a village of pioneers with a vibrant community of local entrepreneurs, and equipped with a rural co-working space, a library, a theatre, a local publishing press, a museum of oil, and an impressive array of other facilities. The mayor and the technicians of the town hall will surprise you: they just happen to be "neo-rurals" and digital nomads who've seen a lot of the world!
The Orchard of Teruel
(Oliete, Teruel)
In the middle of the arid Teruel, there is a place where the water bursts from every corner. This place is called Oliete. Swamps, olive trees, Iberian villages, natural swimming pools, rivers, cenotes, lakes... Our friends from Apadrina un Olivo welcome you with open arms.
Surrounded by water
(Riba-roja d'Ebre, Tarragona)
In one of the meanders of the river Ebro, you will find a little village called Riba-roja d'Ebre. A strategic enclave on the trading route of Camí de Sirga from the times of the Roman Empire. It is now a renowned destination for catching the enormous Siluro fish. Marshes surrounding the village, and water as far as the eye can see. Must visit: el Caribe del Ebro (El Matarraña), a free rural co-working space, an outdoors swimming pool, the kindergarten...
A mountainside paradise
(Molinos Maestrazgo Teruel)
Hidden in the mountain range of Sierra del Maestrazgo you will find the majestic village of Molinos. It is a place full of history, and mysteries. It's not just coincidence that the Maquis chose this as their hideout during the civil war. A village hewn out of the rock of the mountain, surrounded by forests, crystal caverns, rivers, and waterfalls. And now... with a free rural co-working space.
A Journey to 1500BC
(Llagunes, Pallars Sobirà, Lleida)
Perching on a mountain, surrounded by colourful meadows, lies the village of Llagunes. It's a home to only 55 inhabitants, but frequently visited by young professionals. The place we found there is a cozy shelter within an old town house made entirely of rocks from the ancient village. Listen to the story of the manager, a young "neo-rural" man who left everything behind in Barcelona, to build his countryside dream.
And we keep adding new villages counting with...
- Ideally max 10.000 inhabitants
- Pre-existing local entrepreneurial community, where things are already happening
- Active young families, entrepreneurs, neo-rurals, and local initiatives of rural revival and development
- Regular events and local festivals
- Authentic village houses that are empty most of year or spare rooms in village houses, made available by locals
- Prioritizing privately owned properties that are empty most of the year
- As well as commercial rural lodgings that want to increase low-season occupancy
- Good wifi connectivity ideally in the same house (or within a co-working space of the village)
- Basic appliances (kitchen, refrigerator, washing machine, furniture, bathrooms, etc.), facilities and appliances for ensuring a comfortable stay
- Optional heating for the winter

I spontaneously I joined a group to spend few days in a Spanish village. Interesting people, makers, change makers, entrepreneurs, multilinguals for various backgrounds came together in a comfortable rebuilt house in a pastoral village in a corageous landscape. What a peaceful and quiet and at the same time inspiring and relaxing environment. The village has also an interesting history to it and ambitious and highly motivated coop that are transforming the once abandoned village into a cool place to be. The perfect setting to have long walks, calm down, have fascinating conversations and inspiring thoughts and just relaxe. I will repeat the experience for sure. It was special.

When I found out about Pandorahub rural programs, something deep down resonated and awoke my curiosity to experience it. I couldn't resist the idea of spending some days in a very special village in Solanell enjoying the beauty of the nature and the company of whole hearted people with inspiring conversations, stimulating meals and walks in the forest, under the stars... A great combination of wild nature shared with a bunch of open minded people eager to explore ways to spark their personal paths and projects. That was what first brought me to Solanell when I first joined the Cathar program for start-ups. It was a unique out of the box experience with empowering workshops, an international community of really interesting people of different backgrounds and a lot of fun. If this alo resonates you, don't hesitate

I needed to combine work and rest and this weekend in Solanell fulfilled all expectations. The town of Solanell transmits an unexplainable tranquility, surrounded by nature and stories of Cathars is the perfect place to unwind. In addition I was accompanied by makers, foreign and domestic entrepreneurs, and the members of the cooperative whose mission is to revive the village Solanell, sharing stories, walks in the middle of the mountain, games, and discussing ways to improve and impact positively the society. And if that was not enough, we stayed at an amazing house made by the owner, excellent to relax after a day's work and hiking in the mountains, two bedrooms and two bathrooms were we got comfortable accommodation for 6 people
